Abstract:

His Grace the Duke of Leeds, His Majesty’s principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whitehall, London
Zante, November 16th 1789

The appointment which his Majesty has been graciously pleased to confer upon me, in consequence of the representations made to Your Grace of my services, and the loss of my personal security, which I had incurred thereby calls for my sincere and most grateful acknowledgements.
Flattered by this distinguished mark of Your Grace’s approbation, and nobly rewarded for the services, which I have been fortunate enough to render to the British nation, I seize the earliest occasion of assuring Your Grace that the same zeal exerted in the British Service, which first recommended me to Your Grace’s notice, shall continue to mark my conduct and that by a faithfull execution of the duties of my present office in a vigilant attention to the prosperity of the British Commerce, committed to my protection and to the dignity of the British Flag. I will endeavour to do honour to Your Grace’s choice.
I have the honour to be with the utmost respect and Gratitude
Your Grace’s most devoted humble servant
Spiridion Foresti
