Abstract:Αναφορά του Φορέστη για το εμπόριο σιτηρών που πραγματοποιούν τα υδραίικα και σπετσιώτικα καράβια προς την Γαλλία, για λογαριασμό γάλλων εμπόρων, και μάλιστα τονίζει πως ο αριθμός τους φτάνει τα 60 σκάφη και μάλιστα καταφέρνουν να κερδίζουν σχεδόν τα διπλάσια από το αρχικό κόστος του ταξειδιού.Επίσης, ο Φορέστης τονίζει πως για αυτήν την κίνηση των σκαφών ενημερώνει τακτικά τον Commander of His Majesty’s Ships in the Mediterranean: Zante 14 July 1794 The Right Honbl. Lord Grenville My Lord, The Traffic of shipping corn on board Hydriot and Speziot Vessels for France, which I have more than once mentioned to Your Lordship still continues, and is perhaps carried on with more vigour than heretofore. For besides the vessels who pass here from day to day laden, I learn that about sixty such vessels were taking in their cargos at St. John d’ Acre most of which are contracted with by French merchants in the Levant such as at Salonica, Coron, etc who become bound to pay a certain price for the corn upon its being consigned in some port of France, which however if found impracticable they are to carry their cargos elsewhere such as Genoa, Leghorn or Villa Franca. The prices stipulated in case of delivering the Corn in France amount to more than double the prime cost. I have not failed repeatedly giving notice of this traffic to the Commander of His Majesty’s Ships in the Mediterranean.
