Abstract:

Επιστολή (Αρ.5) του Φορέστη (Κέρκυρα 20 Φεβρουαρίου 1806) προς τον The Right Honorable Lord Mulgrave His Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Foreign Department με την οποία τον ενημερώνει για την κακή κατάσταση του ρωσικού στόλου, ο οποίος – όπως τον ενημερώνουν οι ίδιοι οι Ρώσοι – δεν είναι σε αξιόμαχη κατάσταση και άρα – τονίζει ο Φορέστης – δεν υπάρχει δυνατότητα εμπιστοσύνης για βοήθεια από τα ρωσικά πλοία αν κάτι τέτοιο χρειαστεί. Ενώ από την άλλη οι Γάλλοι μπορούν να πλεύσουν ελεύθερα στην Αδριατική. Συγκεκριμένα αναφέρει:
I have had repeated experience, My Lord, that the Russian ships are incapable of supporting actual service for any effectual purpose. And this fact leads me to observe that it is probable that any reliance, which may be placed on the Russian naval force for the protection of these parts and for annoying the enemy, will be found fallacious. In the meantime, in the absence of a naval force of one of the allied powers in the Adriatic, the French may transport troops from one part of the coast to another with impunity; and the commerce of Neuters will be carried on without the necessary control.
