Abstract:

Επιστολή (Αρ.8) του Φορέστη (Κέρκυρα 3 Μαρτίου 1806) προς τον The Right Honorable Lord Mulgrave His Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Foreign Department με την οποία τον ενημερώνει για τον ναυτικό αποκλεισμό που αποφάσισαν οι Ρώσοι να επιβάλλουν στην Αδριατική, για τις στενές σχέσεις που αρχίζει να έχει ο Αλή Πασάς με τους Γάλλους, την απέχθειά του προς τους Ρώσους που τον οδήγησαν να ωθήσει τον – φίλο της Αγγλίας – επίσκοπο Άρτας να μετοικήσει στην Κέρκυρα. Συγκεκριμένα αναφέρεται στα εξής θέματα:
Mr. Foresti has received from the Russian Minister an official confirmation of the blockade to be instituted in the Adriatic Gulph. Some ships have already been sent there. Mr. Foresti relates many particular with respect to the French privateer which lately took a Russian merchant ship, and is now watched by a Russian brig of war. The privateer has taken shelter in a small river near Salora. Ali Pacha in whose territories this has taken place, has sent for the Russian consul on the occasion. This occurrence is likely to increase the district which Ali Pacha (who appears to be much influenced by the French, and has withdrawn his confidence from the Bishop of Arta, a friend to the Russians) has conceived against the latter.
Mr. Foresti has written to captain Leake on the subject of the measures pursued by the French in the Morea. The last accounts from Rum were from Patrass of the 20th ultimo – a number of Albanian officers have applied to Mr. Foresti and offered to raise a corps of at least 3,000 men for the British service. They would join Sir Graig at Messina at their own expense. Mr. Foresti has written to Gentl. Graig on the subject.
The French entered Naples on the 15th ultimo.
On the 28th ultimo a Russian convoy with 2,500 troops with Gentls. Lasu and Anrep etc. sailed for the Black Sea. They are to await at Zante, the arrival of about 1000 more troops. No more are expected to embark.
