Abstract:

Επιστολή (Αρ.10) του Φορέστη (Κέρκυρα 7 Μαρτίου 1806) προς τον The Right Honorable Lord Mulgrave His Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Foreign Department με την οποία τον ενημερώνει για την κατάσταση που διαμορφώνεται στην περιοχή της Αδριατικής-Επτανήσων-Δαλματίας, η οποία είναι άκρως ανησυχητική, από την απόφαση των Ρώσων να περιορίσουν την στρατιωτική τους παρουσία σε αυτά τα μέρη, με αποτέλεσμα ο Φορέστης να εκφράζει φόβους για την γαλλική επεκτατικότητα. Ενώ τονίζει πως η παρουσία και οι υποσχέσεις των Ρώσων στους Έλληνες είχε προκαλέσει και την δυσφορία του Αλή Πασά.
Συγκεκριμένα τονίζει:
Mr. Foresti has lately had frequent conferences with the Russian plenipotentiary, and military commanders at Corfu, on the subject of the defence of the Seven Islands and Turkey from the French. Mr. Foresti relates the many disadvantages arising from the Russians withdrawing any of their troops from Corfu. Mr. Foresti in pursuance of a wish expressed to him by Mr. Arbuthnot has renewed his representations to the Russian agents for the adoption of measures to prevent the French from taking possession of the Austrian provinces on the East of the Adriatic, and also for the sending more ships into that Gulph. They declared that they entirely concurred as to the policy of the measures, yet the small force at present at Corfu rendered adoption of them impossible. Mr. Foresti thinks that the blockade in the Adriatic Gulph of Trieste and Fiume will very much fail in its effect.
