Επιστολή Αρ.26 του Φορέστη (Μάλτα, 22 Σεπτέμβρη 1809) προς τον Right Honorable George Canning His Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Foreign Department με την οποία τον ενημερώνει πως o Sir Alexander Ball του ζήτησε να συναντηθούν και του παρέδωσε σχετική επιστολη από τον Lieutenant General Sir John Stuart. Επίσης, σημειώνει ο Φορέστης, ο Ball τον ενημέρωσε πως είχε λάβει ο ίδιος επιστολή από τον Vice Admiral Lord Collingwood, στην οποία ο τελευταίος εξέφραζε την επιθυμία του ο Φορέστης να συμμετάσχει στην εκστρατεία υπό τον Brigadier General Oswald που προετοιμαζόταν στην Μεσσίνα και η οποία είχε ως στόχο τα νησιά της Ζακύνθου και της Κεφαλονιάς. Ο Φορέστης ενημερώνει τον Canning πως αποδέχτηκε την επιθυμία του Collingwood και πως το ίδιο απόγευμα αναχώρησε από την Μάλτα με το πολεμικό πλοίο Spartan, που το παραχώρησε ο Ball για την μεταφορά του στην Μεσσίνα.
Συγκεκριμένα ο Φορέστης γράφει:
Sir,
I have the honor to inform you that in consequence of a wish expressed by Sir Alexander Ball to have an interview with me I called on him this morning and delivered to me a letter from His Excellency Lieutenant General Sir John Stuart copy of which is herewith enclosed.
He also communicated to me the contents of a letter he had received from His Excellency Vice Admiral Lord Collingwood wherein His Lordship is pleased to intimate His Desire that I should accompany the expedition under Brigadier General Oswald prepared at Messina and directed against the islands of Zante and Cephalonia.
Desirous to seize every opportunity to render myself useful to His Majesty’s Government, and conceiving to act in the spirit of Your Instructions I made no hesitation to meet the wishes of His Majesty’s Commander in Chief, and Sir Alexander Ball having offered His Majesty’s Ship Spartan to convey me I purpose sailing this evening in order to join the expedition at the appointed rendezvous.

Στην επιστολή του ο Φορέστης επισυνάπτει και την επιστολή που του είχε στείλει ο Lieutenant General Sir John Stuart, από την Μεσσίνα στις 17 Σεπτέμβρη 1809 (σ.139-140)

(σ.139-141) επιστολή του Lieutenant General Sir John Stuart προς τον Φορέστη, σταλμένη από την Μεσσίνα στις 17 Σεπτέμβρη 1809, με την οποία ο Stuart ενημερώνει τον Φορέστη πως συγκεντρώνονται δυνάμεις για απόβαση στα νησιά του Ιονίου, και πως όταν θα λάβει στα χέρια του την παρούσα επιστολή ο Φορέστης, το πιο πιθανό είναι η βρετανική δύναμη να έχει ήδη αναχωρήσει προς τα νησιά της Ζακύνθου και της Κεφαλονιάς με σκοπό να εκδιώξει τις γαλλικές δυνάμεις από εκεί. Ο Stuart τονίζει στον Φορέστη πως θεωρεί καθήκον του να τον ενημερώσει και του ζητά να τον βοηθήσει στο έργο του με κάθε δυνατή και χρήσιμη πληροφορία που δύναται να διαθέτει. Συγκεκριμένα ο Stuart γράφει:
Sir,
By the time this reaches your hands it is probable that a body of troops will have sailed from hence to act cooperatively with a squadron of His Majesty’s ships in the endeavour to liberate the islands of Zante and Cephalonia from their present French oppression.
From your recent official situation in that country I consider the present information cannot be otherwise than interesting to you.
Any information that you could be the means of affording to the officers employed on this command could not fail to be highly acceptable.
