Abstract:

Επιστολή Αρ. 9 του Richard Oakes προς τον William Eden στο Λονδίνο (Αγία Πετρούπολη, 17/28 Φεβρουαρίου 1777), με την οποία μεταξύ άλλων ενημερώνει το Λονδίνο πως τέσσερα πλοία αναχώρησαν από την Αγία Πετρούπολη εν τέλει τον περασμένο Ιούλιο και ενώθηκαν μαζί με άλλα 2 στο Λιβόρνο. Τα πλοία έφτασαν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη όπου και ξεφόρτωσαν το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του φορτίου τους και μάλιστα δύο από τα πλοία με την άδεια της Πύλης πέρασαν στην Μαύρη Θάλασσα. Και αυτή η εξέλιξη προκάλεσε ιδιαίτερη ικανοποίηση στην ρωσική αυλή.

Συγκεκριμένα ο Oakes γράφει:

Since I had the honor of writing to You last, I am confirmed, by more certain intelligence, that the six Russian ships alluded to in Your number 2, are the four which sailed from hence in July, and were joined by two others from Leghorn; and I farther learn with regard to them, that their cargoes being in great part disposed of at Constantinople, two of them are already, with the permission of the Porte, passed into the Black Sea. As far as I can yet perceive of the impression made by the arrival of a courier yesterday from Constantinople, this court is, upon the whole, better satisfied at present with the disposition of the Porte, than they were a short time ago […]
