Abstract:

Επιστολή του Φορέστη προς τον Hawkesbury (Κέρκυρα 21 Νοέμβρη 1803) με αναφορά στο πρόσωπο του Wright που αναλαμβάνει His Majesty’s Consul to the Republic of the Seven Islands, και οποίος έφασε στην Κέρκυρα το βράδυ της 20ης Νοέμβρη 1803 και στον οποίο ενημερώνει πως θα παράσχει κάθε βοήθεια και καθοδήγηση. Επίσης αναφέρεται και στο εμπόριο της Ζακύνθου, των Επτανήσων και στην σταφίδα:
I beg leave to acquaint your Lordship that Zante is the residence of the consul, all our trade in these islands being carried on from there, from its produce it is the principal island, and it is there the English merchants, who deal in currant are established; and it has been the ancient residence of all my predecessors ad of myself as consul. I have in all the islands agents and vice-consuls who were chosen by myself ad who I have from long experience proved to be men of integrity and honor; this is a fortunate circumstance for Mr. Wright, as the government of this Republic have lately passed an act, whereby a subject of the Seven Islands is prohibited in future from holding any office, such as agent or consul to a foreign power, however, such as then bore any public employ were excepted. …
