General Campbell, etc.
Συγκεκριμένα γράφει: My Lord, I have used the Freedom herewith to enclose for your perusal a letter addressed to me by Mr. Meyer the Public Secretary to this Government, which treats not so much of the intrinsic value of these Islands, as it points out their political relations and manifold advantages to be derived from the possession of them to a Nation like Ours, whose ascendancy in the zeal of Nations and the European Powers must be necessarily maintained by our commercial and consequently our maritime superiority. This very important subject having naturally occupied by my own mind and attention, My Lord, a well as that of the other servants of His Majesty, to whom you were pleased to confide the interests of Great Britain in this Quarter, in the accompanying address of Mr. Meyer, you will have before you these ideas which have presented themselves to us and towards which, as they will speak amply for themselves, I have only to solicit your Lordship’s indulgence and favorable consideration. I have the honor to remain with great respect My Lord, Your Lordship’s most obedient and humble servant, J.Campbell |
